Skin Deep (installation) - 2003
Mannequin, latex, surgical thread, temporary tattoo, Xerox, photo paper, magnets, adhesive label, build-a-mug
This installation is concerned with emotionally distancing oneself from sexuality. By physically altering, masking or costuming my body allows for a detachment emotionally. By adorning another persons identity, I am able to adopt her sexuality without the emotional baggage. I have re-imaged myself in her place through photography. I then authenticated that gesture by proliferating that new identity through merchandise for consumption in the realm of the collectable market.
